Star Wars: Shards
Some sort of cross between a religion and a fraternal order of quantifiable sciences, these folks present themselves as a sort of human replacement for droids and computers. They’re not sterile or emotionless — far from it! — but they tend to be a lot more comfortable with situations that can be described mathematically, or by principles of engineering, or in computer code.
Interestingly, though they use droids and computerized tools with great glee, I’ve never seen a Mentat let a machine calculate the answer to anything — just observe, measure, and report.
Also, if a Mentat suddenly gets on the comms and says, “One Ping Only,” Force users need to brace for a bell-ringing sort of a sensation as the Mentat does their version of high-speed meditation; and people wearing combat helmets or command helmets need to shut off their incoming comms immediately for not less than sixty seconds. And maybe activate flare protection.
