The Hunt for Silar Mins, Part IX

Dizzy and Iwa look around the automated shuttle. Hatches are sealed and the controls are locked for the distant world of Mechis II. Before they can find any more, the sensor chimes for attention. A hyperdrive docking collar has just come into range.

Outside the bridge of the Banana Republic, Maia looks over the collection of unconscious mercenaries. They’re alive but in no shape to cause any more mischief. Rushlight was in a similar state. He pulls open a medkit with one hand while taking care not to bump his collection of burns. Or his cracked arm.

A few meters away, Sh’ree performs his own triage. Only his patient is the long list of the Banana Republic’s systems. Not to mention her droid support crew.

Last, amid ship, Jangir and Greelo swap blaster and arrows with the last intruder. Holed up in one of the main turbolifts, the armored human has managed to keep the two bounty hunters at bay so far.

Was this, all of this, part of Madalitso’s plan? Or was it his actual plan? If so his chosen targets are now separated, some wounded. Their defenses are down. It would be the perfect time to strike.

Unless Madalitso has something else up his sleeve…

The Hunt for Silar Mins, Part VIII

The bounty hunter could kill everyone aboard the Banana Republic by pressing a button. But instead, he just threatened. Why?

Madalitso Cardea was resourceful, brutal, flamboyant, and dangerous. But he had not shown any interest in torture. Not once. Using a gravity bomb on the ship and threatening to use it? That seemed unlike him. The question resurfaced for everyone in the room.

Why hadn’t he used it?

Thick silence flooded the room the instant the message from Madalitso clicked off. It was shattered a second later when a message from the Vivisector arrived two seconds later.

“*Banana Republic*, this is Vivisector. Good news. The ninth Star Empire flotilla has replied and estimate to be in-system within two days. Their commander, Shiro Kurita, wanted to extend his thanks on behalf of the Empire for the return of the svelte shuttle. He’ll be glad to take it off your hands as arranged. Vivisector out.”

It was another item to add to a long list, starting with evidence of a mass murder, to getting the Jarl brothers to help free the trapped ARC troopers, and more.

The silence returned. This time it felt heavy with anticipation and responsibility.

The Hunt for Silar Mins, Part VII

“It’s me, Morticia …”

The moment the unusual cyborg said the words, the galaxy seemed to hold its breath. Morticia, if that was true, needed help. But what kind of help?

Her former body, a svelte class infiltration shuttle, was heavily damaged. It might even be beyond repair. And this new form, she was a mix of machine and plant. Could her memory core, what made the artificial intelligent being ‘alive’, be transferred? Where would anyone begin?

Behind the group, Captain Merit Rosette brow pinched in concentration. A wash of emotion passed over her face, always returning to surprise.

In the quiet of the cargo hold, the crate Greelo had found let out a series of chimes, then a click. Inside, a blue light revealed Dizzy, still caught in suspended animation.

And then, there was the hologram of the Kaminoan woman. She looked haggard and tired. The timestamp of a few weeks earlier gave away it was a hologram but the Kaminoan’s eyes seemed to search though the group, until she found Maia.

“Maia. My dear Maia. Help me. You, your sister and her friends are my only hope …”

The Hunt for Silar Mins, Part VI

Alarm klaxons echo through the station like electronic bells tolling for the dead. The latest Techno Union attack hit one of the main fuel lines, which collapse a small portion of the docking ring.

Maintenance crews work at a feverish pace, stabilizing and rebuilding Arcadia with as much efficiency as they can. But they aren’t machines and so recovery is slow.

In the damaged portion of the docking ring, the svelte shuttle, Morticia, lay battered from debris. Her main wings crumpled, cockpit smashed, and her power core cycled down before it overloaded.

Is the AI’s main core intact? No one knows or can tell from the damage. Rushlight hurried to get a backup drive and find out. If intact, he intended to get a backup. Something, anything before the Spartan’s pressed their claim that Morticia had been stolen and take her to their ship.

Meanwhile, aboard the Banana Republic, Sh’ree hunches over a console lit by a single overhead light. His fingers dance over the controls almost too fast to see, while his eyes grow harder with each passing second. Anger was not a foreign concept to the herglic, just not one that he expressed outward or in the same way as the rest of the crew.

Code finished, he tapped a key as he clenched his jaw in stony silence. Among the communications traffic, his data packet was transmitted toward the Spartan Imperium Corvette, Vivisector.

The Hunt for Silar Mins, Part V

Maintenance crews redouble their efforts, getting both the suffocating smoke and fire under control from the Techno Union attack.

At the same time, Arcadia station security, haggard and tired, arrive to take the bomber into custody. Other attacks transpired across the station. Security mentioned three others that happened at the same time as this one.

While the rallying cry of “Remember the Truncheon” is stirring, it leaves more questions than answers. Why was the Truncheon so important as to start this small rebellion?

Greelo and Rushlight help station maintenance however they can deal with the sealed explosive. Across the way, past the crowd, the mysterious Cathar known as Mordecai looks on.

Meanwhile, down in the grim reality of ‘brown sector’, the maintenance and recycling hub of Arcadia station, Iwa emerges from the turbolift. She finds Dizzy standing over three figures laying on the deck plates.

The Hunt for Silar Mins, Part IV

The last of the ion storm plays out leaving Arcadia station and the space around Mechis III clear.

With the charged debris field launched into hyperspace and the storm was gone, the crew has time to consider the offer from the Cathar, Mordecai.

But! Then there is the Black Hat pilot, Hinaka Creed. He survived the trip to Mechis to warn the Banana Republic but is paying for that by laying unconscious in Arcadia station’s medbay. Also, who else heard that distress warning and took note it?

And what should be done about the human that Mordecai claims is his apprentice? The man bears an uncanny resemblance to Yeager Lexis, consort to the Empress of the Galactic Star Empire. So much that he could be his twin or his clone.

Also, there is the trip to Vandelheim to collect Arthren’nis Jarl’s brother, Gowri, the other half of “Silar Mins” to help free the trapped Arc troopers.

And last, what of this ‘other’ Silar Mins? What is he after and does the crew of the Banana Republic stand in his way?

The Hunt for Silar Mins, Part III

After a six hour stay with Cenvex security, the crew of the Banana Republic are released to the smiling face of Mabon Pamphero … and Shree with a cadre of armed battle droids from the Banana Republic!

As Security Chief Kalidarn was in a forgiving mood, and had experienced before what problems Madalitso Cardea can generate, he let everyone go with a warning: be more careful in the future.

After leaving, the heroes have a quick conversation with your new allies, Captain Isra Garick and Jangir Toth. There is a job to do for the beer baron but “Silar” – who in reality was Arthren’nis Jarl – needed to be kept on a short leash. Jangir agrees to come along, while Captain Garick suggests she lead the Crimson Nova on a false chase to a rival bounty hunter guild. She said she would catch up later.

From there, the Banana Republic jumps to hyperspace for the Mustafar system. Arriving a week later, they drop into the middle of a space battle! The Black Hat pirate gang is attacking Pegasus Station and the station is calling for help!

Acting fast, the Banana Republic attacks. Just as the battle heats up, the mysterious gang of droideka mercenaries and pirates called Drozka’s raiders drops out of hyperspace! Making a quick alliance with the Black Hats, the Banana Republic turns to fight off the new threat. The deal with the Black Hats being that the return of a stolen data chip hidden among Abhay Ronan’s beer barrels.

With the fight over, the Banana Republic loads the barrels aboard, and locate the data chip. The crew makes a copy, leaving the original chip in a drone for the pirates to collect. The Banana Republic ejects the drone, then jumps to hyperspace.

While on the trip from Mustafar to Mechis, there is time to examine the copied data. There were only two items: a set of astrogation coordinates and a security code. At first no one recognizes either one, until Dizzy remembers the code during her time in the clone wars. It is a particular security code pattern used only for Omega-level clearance for the Confederacy of Independent Systems. The Separatists.

Uneasy about the find, they contact the Jedi temple and speak with Master Kenobi. They ask for his help, wanting to meet him and Senator Padme Skywalker on Mechis. The hope being that they could help shed some light on this mystery.

The trip through hyperspace takes less time than anticipated as the Banana Republic arrives in Mechis a little over five days later. Dropping from hyperspace, the Banana Republic enters the Mechis system. Home to Mechis III, a rocky, arid world which houses many of the top droid designer and construction facilities.

The com channel lights up with a signal from Arcadia Station, the space station in orbit around Mechis III. Along with that is a second call from a ship called, Reilly’s Luck, the light freighter owned by Captain Isra Garick.

The Hunt for Silar Mins, Part II

After reaching Cenvex station, the crew sets out on two important tasks: locating Silar Mins. On speaking with station security, they explain Silar is infected with an intelligent parasite and that they have the means to remove it.

Suspecting a silent invasion, Cenvex station security plans for the worst, notifies medical and requests help from the crew of the Banana Republic. They agree, handing over a dead parasite and all data they have on how to remove it. In the process, Rushlight works with one of the doctors and invents a way to detect the parasite through pheromones.

With Cenvex medical working on the data, the crew then heads for the promenade. Some to the Mayu’s Mercy Pub, others to the station promenade. While in the promenade, Rushlight makes a quick search of the job postings and finds a lucrative job for the Beer Baron, Ahbay Ronan. The crew takes the job.

Meanwhile, using the check-in logs from the bounty hunter boards, Greelo tracks Jengir Toth to Mayu’s Mercy Pub. There the crew learns more about Silar and that he’s been meeting with a Captain Isra Garick.

But, before the crew can either search for Captain Garick or leave to check in with the Beer Baron, Silar appears! Then, so does the Crimson Nova bounty hunter, Madalitso Cardea. A fight breaks out in the promenade that stretches over two floors!

When the dust settles, Madalitso and his hired thugs are down for the count. The crew of the Banana Republic have taken their fair share of shots and scrapes in return. And … Cenvex station security arrived to arrest everyone involved to sort this out.

Six hours in security holding pass. Until the crew of the Banana Republic, Silar, Captain Garick and Jangir Toth are all released into the custody of one Mabon Pemphero, accompanied by a nervous Shree, as Silar explains to the group …

he is not Silar Mins. The person called ‘Silar Mins’ doesn’t really exist.
